It’s a lovely early fall day out there, and I just wanted to share with you the activity on the Autumn Joy sedums. They are covered with honeybees, and a few little butterflies, mostly skippers. Lovely little things, butterflies are flying flowers!

I’m always happy when the bees have found something they love in my garden! Here are quite a few (just honeybees) enjoying the sedums:

There’s a shrub down near the bulkhead I cut way back, it’s called a Nelia, it’s in the rose family, it’s a nice soft pink when it blooms, but the rest of the year it’s just green. I was going to take it all out, but changed my mind – I rooted out many offshoots and will keep it under control going forward.

The whole yard needs work, but I’ll pick on it one piece at a time. More will follow!

I just noticed the first blossom opening up, it’s a pretty fringe of purply-blue:

I’ll get another shot when more open.  I’ll have to reread the info on blanching them, I think I do that at the end of August.  Have to try it at least once!!  They’re supposed to taste like artichokes.

Then there’s the multiple projects and resulting piles of wood and lumber.  Hubby covers all things left out with blue tarps.  Between two piles (coop left-overs, for the most part) grew this lovely compositae of some sort, teeny little daisy type flowers, but the petals are so narrow and hairlike.  To me it looks like baby’s breath.

And then there’s the Impatiens glandulifera I got somewhere along the line.  It grows like jewelweed, and it’s almost as weedy (well, I guess it *is* as weedy, they’re considered invasive – I can see why), they come up everywhere in the backdoor garden.  I weed out most of them, but leave a few for the novelty.  They stay near the backdoor, so I’m not going to get too concerned about them.

I can’t end this post without mentioning my favorite weed of all, Viola tricolor, or Johnny Jump-Ups.  I absolutely adore them.  They come up everywhere, and it kills me to pull them, but pull them I must, or I’d have nothing else in the garden!  Here is an older shot of them in the front yard, when I had my veggie garden out there.

These are just a few of the ‘weeds’ I have in my garden.  What do you have in yours?

I need order in my life.  I flit.  When things are disorganized, I don’t function well – but my attention is on so many things nothing is organized.  It’s a never ending struggle.

My garden is a mess.  I need to come up with a better fencing system out there, to keep the chooks at bay, the weeds are intertwined beneath and through the flexible plastic fence hubby bought to surround the garden – a great idea and inexpensive, removable, but I’m not thrilled with it.  So while it’s functional, the fact that it isn’t ‘the fence’ keeps me from moving forward….somehow.

But while I sit here typing, it gets nothing but worse out there – so out I go!
