My bit of earth is a reference to my favorite book of all time, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.  Mary asks of her uncle “Please sir, may I have a bit of earth?”, and her uncle, not knowing or caring what the child is asking, gives his permission.  Thus The Secret Garden is born.

I had spent many hours ruminating, trying to come up with a name for our home and gardens here.   It came to me while walking with my husband around a lake down in North Carolina – why hadn’t I thought of it before?  Who knows where you’ll be when inspiration strikes?

So, welcome to my bit of earth.
